About me

Permanent / transient

Drummer and sound designer Simon Scheibel has made it his mission to broaden his musical horizon with each step of his career. This versatile 35-year- old from Cologne feels as comfortable playing New York Jazz, Ruhrpott Progressive Rock and Kölsch Pop Rock as creating international sound productions.

At a young age Simon was strongly influenced by the musical background of his family. His grandfather was a drummer and his father a passionate guitarist. It was the latter who introduced him to early blues and 70s and 80s rock, so it is no surprise that to this day Simon has a soft spot for guitar-heavy instrumental music. He is however very interested in hip hop, heavy metal and Big Band productions as well, styles that he had the opportunity to explore and combine while studying jazz at the Arnhem conservatory. During this period Simon sought inspiration abroad, participating in international workshops and touring with the Youth Jazz Orchestra.

After graduating in 2009, Simon moved to Cologne, where he is part of numerous bands. Over the past few years he has gotten increased international attention as a drummer, winning the Best Instrumentalist award at the Local Heroes band contest. He has been featured in magazines such as Sticks and Drums & Percussion, and in 2014 he founded the sound design company Ohrenkunst, where he has been part of projects for Google, Bentley, Samsung and HBO. For Google Ohrenkunst created the soundtrack of an interactive installation that premiered on a 60-metre screen in Times Square, New York.

Simon’s plans for the near future include several album productions and releases, tours, sound design and other challenges, where he will continue combining attention to detail with big picture musicality.
